The Rain

Content

Rain is depicted in numerous ways in a realistic, figurative or abstract graphic language, and in its symbolic or metaphorical adaptation.

This exhibition brings together nearly 80 objects and iconographic documents from the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac collections. It invites visitors to explore different aspects of rain through pieces chosen for their evocative power or their strong emotional and aesthetic charge. Through a selection of works from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas, it leads the visitor from the natural phenomenon of rain to its inclusion by people within their conception of the universe.

The trivial and the spiritual, the secular and the religious are thus united and confronted in a contrast which is a metaphor for life itself.
