2011 Photographic Residencies

For his series Pride, produced as part of the Photoquai Residency Program, Andrew Esiebo set out to discover the men's hairdressers and barbers of West Africa: Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Mauritania. It is through them that he looks at the construction of the African male identity, wedged between posters of footballers and pots of shaving cream. This project acts as a photo-reportage of the most popular styles in the big cities, the personal stories of the barbers, and the spaces dedicated to the art of hairdressing across Africa.

Series produced in 2011.
