Usage
Conway Shipley (1824-1888) accomplit sa carrière dans la marine britannique. En 1848, il navigue dans l’océan Pacifique sur le navire royal Calypso et fait escale à Tahiti, aux Fidji, aux Samoa ainsi qu’aux Pitcairn Island. Dessinateur amateur, le lieutenant de vaisseau a emporté avec lui papier, pinceaux, aquarelle et crayon. Il représente la côte aperçue depuis le navire, mais aussi les paysages traversés et les populations rencontrées dans les îles du Pacifique.
