Description
Légende de la planche : "Plate VII. Hu' Kachina is the whipper who appears only wwhen the children are initiated into the Kachina cult. His terrifying appearance can be attributed to the large mouth with bared teeth, the projecting eyes and the horns from which eagle feathers dangle. A fan of eagle feathers projects backward from the mask top and wildcat skin forms its base. The black horse hair beard has stripes of whitewash across it. He wears a breech cloth and a red horse hair kilt. The body is painted black and white. In each hand he carries yucca blades with which he administraters the whipping. Two of these Kachinas perform every initiation whipping".
