The exhibition illustrates the transition from the exotic image of Indians, unaffected by the passing of time, to the signs of the Christianisation attempted by the Salesian missionaries in the early 20th century.
About the exhibition
A selection of 24 images demonstrates the changes in the representation of the Shuar Indians between 1910 and 1930. Initially, portraits remained relatively faithful to the idealistic image of the Indian. Then through the photographer Manuel Jesús Serrano (and his camera which can be seen in one of the images), the question of the construction of the image of the Indian emerged.
