It invites us to take a voyage around the entire icecap - from Siberia to Alaska - and is subdivided into different sections according to the numerous civilizations (Evenk, Dorset, Kushkokwin, etc.). Doug Wheeler, an American artist who was a pioneer in the “Light and Space” movement, was responsible for the artistic direction and design of the exhibition. He conceived the scenography with the architect Jean de Gastines, who used the curving walls of Jean Nouvel's gallery to create a white, North Pole landscape, devoid of orthogonal lines.

The curator and artistic director decided against providing the visitor with commentaries within the Upside Down –  Arctic exhibition. Instead, a complementary brochure will be supplied. It contains a map that looks like it was created with freehand drawings and which summarizes the visitor's journey inside the exhibition’s Arctic space. As such, it will function as a mini-guide for the visitor's ice-covered adventure…

A panel at the end of the exhibition will provide a list of lenders and credits. Any necessary information will be supplied by the catalogue, which can be consulted upon exiting the exhibition in the Garden Gallery. This catalogue consultation area is separate from the bookstore.
