Since 2008, the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Photography Award has reflected the museum’s commitment to supporting contemporary photographic creation from outside Europe. It is open to photographic artists from one of the four continents represented in the museum’s collections: Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania.

Over the course of its nearly 18-year history, this support has helped bring numerous talents to the fore, building a reference collection of international contemporary photography comprising 49 award-winning photographers and approximately 700 prints. Their work explores a wide range of issues, including ecology, the migration crisis, postcolonial memory, the deconstruction of patriarchal models, and the role of photography in contemporary questions of identity.

Each edition of the Photography Award in Dakar presents the work of the laureates, who are given one year to develop and complete their artistic project following their selection. For this fourth edition, taking place from 18 February to 2 May 2027, the exhibition will present photographic works by four laureates from 2012, 2015, 2024, and 2025: Emmanuelle Andrianjafy (Madagascar), The Maze; Felipe Romero Beltrán (Colombia), Páramo: Familia; Lek Kiatsirikajorn (Thailand), Lost in Paradise; and Guy Tillim (South Africa), Museum of the Revolution.

The exhibition has been made possible thanks to the support of the Société des Amis du musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac and its Cercle pour la Photographie et l’Art contemporain, dedicated partners committed to enriching and promoting the collections of the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac.
