The Théodore Monod Museum of African Art (IFAN Cheikh Anta Diop) and the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac have joined forces for the third edition of the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Photography Prize, which, for the first time, presents works by three of the 2023–2024 award winners: Mónica Alcázar-Duarte (Mexico / Great Britain), Xuna’an Kaab, Grandma as a Beekeeper; Jaisingh Nageswaran (India), பல்லிவால் Pallivaal (The Lizard’s Tail); and Julie Gough (Australia), The Search.
Since 2008, the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Photography Prize has borne witness to the museum’s commitment to supporting contemporary extra-European photographic creation by addressing photographer-artists from one of the four continents represented in the museum’s collections—Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania.
Over nearly fifteen years, this support has helped bring to light numerous talents, forming a reference collection of international contemporary photography (49 award-winning photographers and around 700 prints). This collection explores a wide range of issues, including ecology, the migration crisis, post-colonial memory, the deconstruction of the patriarchal model, and the role of photography in contemporary identity-based debates.
Each edition of the Photography Prize in Dakar presents the award winners the year following their selection, after they have had one year to complete their creative project. For this first edition, to be held from 12 February to 3 May 2025, the exhibition will present the photographic works of three 2023–2024 laureates will be presented: Mónica Alcázar-Duarte (Mexico / Great Britain), Xuna’an Kaab, Grandma as a Beekeeper; Jaisingh Nageswaran (India), பல்லிவால் Pallivaal (The Lizard’s Tail); and Julie Gough (Australia), The Search.
