Moving Mayas

Geographical circulations in Mayan spaces and timelines

The idea behind this two-day symposium is to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue on a single population: the Maya. From Mexico to Honduras, from the Classical period (from 250 AD) to today, our aim is to shed new light on spatial mobility practices that are all too often overlooked or ignored.

The reason for the movement questions the motives that drive populations to move and the way in which the migratory experience is reflected in everyday objects.

Cities and circulations opens a discussion on the impact of urban development on the movement strategies of newcomers.

The present and the way to what extent does the present and the presence of the testimonies of the Mayan peoples show the permanent reinvention of their mobility?

Migrating Mayas concludes by considering what issues are raised by the migration of this indigenous population from the classical period to the present day.
