As part of the exhibition Sepik: Arts in Papua New Guinea, the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac is organising an international symposium on the Sepik River and its populations.
Given the diversity and complexity of the societies that live on the its banks as well as the variety of their material production, the Sepik Valley and its tributaries have acted as a testing ground for fieldwork and studies on rituals and the use of objects. This symposium takes stock of this research and more particularly the interpretation of objects in their uses (rituals, dances, etc.) and in their presentation by museums and their exhibitions.
In conjunction with the SEPIK: Arts in Papua New Guinea (27 October 2015 - 31 January 2016)
