Architecture
Architect Jean Nouvel proposed “a singular architecture for singular objects”. A place where Cultures meet in dialogue. Docked on the banks of the River, perched on stilts, with suspended multi-colored “boxes”, shielded by dense vegetation and protected by a glass palisade, the museum is only gradually revealed to you.
Garden and green wall
A place of nature and culture, the garden is an invitation to travel, featuring trails, small hills, paved paths and pools ideal for meditation and reverie. The garden houses 169 trees and thirty or so plant species: oaks and maples on the north, magnolias and cherries on the south.
Collections
The musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac is the heir to 200 years of history, enrichment, study and conservation of public collections. It conserves almost 370,000 works originating in Africa, the Near East, Asia, Oceania and the Americas which illustrate the richness and cultural diversity of the non-European civilizations from the Neolithic period (+/-10,000 B.C.) to the 20th century.
The museum is one room to gather all cultures and civilizations, to express the idea that the museum is where cultures meet in dialogue.
