Content

The musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac publishes a Sensory picture-book (tactile and Braille version)
Its purpose is to assist people in discovering the vast wealth of objects in the ethnographic collections (Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas) and the variety of materials from which they are made. The Sensory picture-book is designed for people with visual impairments and for all those who accompany them – parents, relatives, teachers and carers. It brings together a selection of 16 works (4 per continent) reproduced in colour, and adapted for boards embossed in bas-relief. The objects were selected by museum curators to show the magnitude of non-Western creations. 16 artworks made from very diverse materials (bark, metal, shell, straw ...) of varying shapes and sizes were selected. In addition to the captions written in Braille, an audio description CD is included which puts the works in context.

The project was conducted with the help of a company specialised in producing tactile book, and in consultation with special education institutions and associations for the blind and visually impaired (e.g. Fédération des Aveugles de France)
